Match Week 11 Round Up

Two North Berks League Division Two teams made good progress in The Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup to progress to the 4th Round. Ardington & Lockinge completed a 4-2 victory over fellow Division Two team Kintbury Rangers Reserves and Compton did extremely well to defeat the newly formed Abingdon Town from The Hellenic League Division Two East following a penalty shoot out after finishing one goal apiece after ninety minutes.

In Division One the two leading teams Saxton Rovers and Berinsfield had good victories, with Saxton defeating East Hendred by three goals to one and Berinsfield scoring nine without reply from Stanford in the Vale. Westminster dropped two vital home points when they were held by improving Steventon in a six goal thriller. In the remaining fixture newly promoted did extremely well to edge out Lambourn Sports winning by three goals to teo.

Wallingford Reserves closely defeated fellow Hellenic League Club’s Reserve Team Faringdon Town in a game that produced seven goals.

Long Wittenham Reserves enjoyed an excellent victory in Division Three when defeating fellow promotion chasers Cholsey United by two goals to one, this win helped East Hendred Reserves pull clear at the top when they beat Wallingford A by six clear goals. Drayton also in the promotion hunt had a good victory away to Lambourn Reserves.

Ardington Reserves look clear favourites in Division Four after their 6-1 victory away to Steventon Reserves. The ever improving Hanney 66 had an excellent 6-1 victory at the League newcomers Appleford. There were also good victories for Marcham Reserves 4-1 at home to Berinsfield Reserves and Watlington Reserves who won a rather tight game at Hagbourne Reserves.

In the North Berks Cup First Round, Blewbury narrowly defeated Sutton Courtenay in a seven goal thriller and Benson Lions’s improved form continued as they won away at Cumnor Minors by six goals to three.

Letcombe Reserves went goal crazy for the second week running when they won by nine clear goals in the first round of the War Memorial Cup following their comprehensive victory at Uffington the previous week.
